I'm no expert but they look like Sprats to me. I've seen large shoals being chased by Mackerel off Deep Point. I guess they may have been pushed in to the shallows by chasing fish and left high and dry.
Unless Richard can tell us they were seen washing ashore floating on the surface already dead. That would be more worrying.
They look pretty fresh to me nice bright eyes. Granfer would probably have been out there fighting off the Gulls! LOL

Yes! sprats chased by Mackerel, very alive when they came into the par but so many inevitably got stranded.
Big fish eat little fish then or in this case. Not.
they may be anchovy - never seen so much bird activity off the garrison and albacore (tuny ) have been seen chasing them - get you tuna lures out !!
