St. Mary's Lifeboat assisting the French single-handed Racing yacht " Cap des Palmes " from Saint Malo which got into difficulties South of the Bishop when an inner headsail parted from the deck and blew out through the spreaders on the mast. She was towed in to a buoy off the Newman where three of the lifeboat crew went aboard and helped the sailor climb the mast but he failed to free it. Soon after there was a dramatic gust of wind which then changed direction and dropped away which allowed him to recover the damaged sail and the Lifeboat retuned to harbour......Robin Mawer
