This unusual 64ft. schooner rigged French yacht " Why "  was in St Mary's harbour last night and in Tresco Channel today.
The " Under The Pole "expedition ship is a robust aluminium schooner, build to sail all the world seas. She was re-fitted in 2013 to be able to sail in the safest conditions, even with bad weather and to winter, trapped in the ice, during the polar night.
A real moving base camp, the boat can accommodate 12 crew in 4 cabins and carries  several tons of equipment dedicated to submarine and land exploration.
The ship is set for yachting as a training sailing ship and diving school......Robin Mawer
