I was out last night (Sunday) trying to get a photo of the Perseid Meteor shower. Failed on the meteors but still got a couple of interesting photos.

One is of the Milky Way over the top of Coastguard Cottages (next to the shop on St. Martins), the red glow at the bottom is from the warning lights on the TV tower. Near the top is a faint blue line that may be a meteor trail.

The other photo is looking North East from the Shop, towards the constellations of Perseus and Cassiopia. The glow in the bottom right is from lights on the mainland, in the top left is a trail left by one of the perseid meteors. The diffuse orange object in the top right is the Andromeda Nebula (M31).

Exposure times were between 2.5 and 3 minutes, this causes the stars to leave a trail as they rotate around the Pole Star.

Regards, Richard Perkins.
